Welcome to Contest Kft.!

With over 30 years of experience, we are one of Hungary's leading manufacturers and distributors of dehumidifying sachets. Our silica gel products are guaranteed to meet the highest quality standards and effectively protect your products from the harmful effects of moisture.

What is silica gel and how does it work?

Silica gel (silicon dioxide) is a traditional desiccant that is suitable for both static and dynamic drying, and is well known for its excellent moisture-absorbing properties. It is capable of absorbing other polar gases, such as hydrogen fluoride. Silica gel is a non-hazardous material.

The packaging of the dehumidifying sachet is breathable, allowing air movement, but fine enough to prevent the gel particles from escaping. Silica gel dehumidifying sachets are available in various sizes to meet customer needs.

When the silica gel begins to saturate, its color starts to change. It is very important to store all dehumidifiers in tightly sealed packaging before use to keep them active.

The principle of operation is based on surface adsorption:

  • The silica gel particles contain tiny pores, providing a huge surface area for moisture absorption.
  • These pores physically trap the moisture in the air, absorbing up to 35% of their own weight.
  • Silica gel not only works effectively but also provides an eco-friendly, non-toxic solution for moisture control.

Technical specification of silica gel:

At 25°C and 20% relative humidity, it absorbs 11% of its weight.

At 25°C and 60% relative humidity, it absorbs 32% of its weight.

At 25°C and 80% relative humidity, it absorbs 35% of its weight.

Extreme temperature fluctuations may cause high humidity in areas distant from the dehumidifier until the temperature stabilizes. For added safety, we recommend using several smaller dehumidifying sachets rather than one or two large ones for larger packages or air shipments.

Why is the use of silica gel important, and where can it be applied?

It is internationally accepted that relative humidity levels above 50% can lead to corrosion, rusting, mold growth, harmful chemical reactions, and malfunctioning of electrical equipment.

Silica gel, when used in the appropriate amount, ensures a 10% humidity level inside the packaging, which is about 1/6th of what is required to initiate rusting on a metal surface. This value applies only to the space in which the silica gel is active.

  • Food industry: Used in packaging of food and spices to prevent moisture and clumping.
  • Pharmaceutical industry: For the packaging of tablets, powders, and other sensitive formulations.
  • Electronics: Prevents corrosion and damage caused by condensation.
  • Logistics and shipping: Protects goods from environmental moisture during long shipments.
